The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has identified approximately 15 flood-prone areas in the Greater Accra region. During an appearance on Adom TV’s Nnawɔtwe show, Dennis Nartey Adjarno, the Greater Accra Regional NADMO Director, stated that the assessment covered all 29 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region. Notably, areas like Weija-Gbawe and Ga South are highlighted as particularly vulnerable due to the proximity of the Weija Dam. Mr. Adjarno emphasized that while disasters are unpredictable, NADMO is prepared for the upcoming rainy season with measures in place to address emergencies. He acknowledged that while Ghana has made strides in flood prevention, there is still work to be done. He pointed out that as a developing nation, Ghana is on a path to reducing flooding challenges over time. Additionally, he stressed the importance of changing public attitudes and called for stricter enforcement of building regulations to mitigate flooding impacts. The need for community awareness and compliance with safety measures was also underscored.
