Accra Regional Minister Orders Swift Flood Response, Urges Residents to Stay Safe

The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council has expressed deep concern over widespread flooding in parts of the region after heavy rains on Sunday.

In a press release signed by *Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo (MP), Greater Accra Regional Minister*, the Council sympathized with residents who have suffered losses, displacement, and other hardships. “My heart goes out to all individuals and families who have been affected... We stand with you during this difficult period,” she said.

*Directives for MMDCEs and Emergency Agencies*

Hon. Ocloo said resident safety is her “highest priority” and has directed all *Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs)* to:

- Move into communities with emergency response teams and NADMO officers

- Intensify rescue operations and evacuate those trapped by floodwater

- Assess damage on the ground and provide immediate relief

- Remain fully engaged until the situation is under control

The Council says it is working closely with *NADMO, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Police Service, and other emergency agencies* to coordinate response efforts and protect lives and property.

With the Ghana Meteorological Agency forecasting more rain, the Minister urged residents to:

- *Exercise extreme caution and avoid unnecessary movement*

- *Stay indoors where possible* and keep away from flood-prone areas, drains, and fast-flowing water

- *Keep children safe* – no playing in floodwater or crossing flooded roads and drains
