Minority Leader *Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin* has used his closing remarks as Parliament rose today to demand full investigations into three major incidents that have occurred under the current government.
Speaking on behalf of the Minority, Afenyo-Markin expressed concern over what he described as the government’s silence on the tragedies.
He referenced the crash of a state-owned helicopter which killed high-ranking state officials and army personnel. He also cited a Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise that ended in tragedy with the deaths of at least six young women who had gone to serve the country. The third issue he raised relates to the June flooding.
According to the Minority Leader, no one in government has accepted responsibility for any of the incidents. He argued that Parliament cannot allow the silence to continue.
Afenyo-Markin insisted that both the helicopter crash and the recruitment deaths must be subjected to the same full parliamentary inquiry being demanded for the June floods.
He called for a proper investigation by the House with powers to summon witnesses, ask questions, and publish findings, instead of what he termed “quiet internal memos” or press statements that are quickly forgotten.
The Minority Leader concluded by reiterating the Minority’s commitment to oversight and accountability as Parliament proceeds on recess.
