Black Queens Fire Back At Ministry, Demand Respect, Transparency And Payment Of Dues

Players of Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, have responded to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, accusing it of failing to engage them directly and calling for “basic communication, respect, transparency and accountability.”

In a statement dated 13th August 2026, the players said they made repeated attempts to contact the Ministry but received “no acknowledgment, clear update or meaningful communication.” They noted that while the Ministry issued a public statement on their concerns, there was no direct response to the team.

“Going public was not our preferred choice. It was a last resort after our attempts to communicate were met with continued silence,” the statement read.

*1. Per Diems*

The players questioned why per diems were not paid from the start of their official camp on 11th July. They said the Ministry only referred to payments from 26th July onwards, but believe the entire period should be accounted for.

*2. Winning & Qualification Bonuses*

The Queens expressed surprise at the Ministry’s claim that there is no qualification bonus under the current framework. They cited that the same Minister paid them a qualification bonus last year.

They also referenced an incident on 28th July when the Minister visited training and promised bonuses for the Egypt matches. “When he arrived, he brought only $700, which he also shared on his social media. This was not the qualification bonus communicated to us,” the players stated.

The team stressed they are not asking for special treatment, but for better treatment.

“We represent Ghana and deserve respect, transparency and proper support,” they said.

The players further asked when the first dedicated budget was ever allocated specifically to the Black Queens.

“We work hard, make sacrifices and represent Ghana with pride. We deserve to be treated with fairness and respect,” the statement concluded.

The Black Queens ended their message by wishing themselves luck ahead of their match against Ivory Coast today.
