Black Queens’ Quarter-Final Qualification Fills Nation With Pride – Hon. Lawrencia Dziwornu

Member of Parliament for Akuapem South Constituency and Member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth and Sports, *Hon. Lawrencia Dziwornu*, has congratulated the Black Queens for qualifying to the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after finishing second in Group D.

In a statement, Hon. Dziwornu said the team’s final group match against Mali tested the nerves of every Ghanaian supporter, but the Queens showed resilience, composure and determination to secure the point needed to progress.

She commended midfielder *Evelyn Badu* for her well-taken first-half goal, describing it as a reminder of her quality in front of goal. The MP also praised skipper *Portia Boakye* for leading from the back with the calmness and leadership the team needed in such a crucial encounter.

Hon. Dziwornu noted that finishing second in the group comes with an added advantage, as it means Ghana will avoid Africa’s most successful women’s football nation, Nigeria, in the quarter-finals. According to her, this boosts the Black Queens’ chances of progressing further in the tournament.

Looking ahead, she said the next match against Malawi is a defining one. Victory, she explained, will not only book Ghana a place in the semi-finals but will also secure the country’s return to the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time since 2007.
