The Bank of Ghana has assured that the new Heritage Series of Ghanaian banknotes has been designed with improved tactile features to make the currency easier to identify and handle for persons with disabilities.
The Heritage Series forms part of the central bank’s efforts to make the cedi more inclusive.
Speaking during an engagement with the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations, the Head of the Currency Management Department, Dominic Owusu, said the Bank will continue to safeguard the integrity of the Ghana cedi while making it accessible to all.
"We recognise that people may experience different challenges when identifying currencies, handling banknotes and coins, and conducting cash transactions independently. These considerations have been well informed in our effort to modernize the Ghana cedi in its Heritage Series, we have taken account of these needs," he said.
He added that inclusiveness is an ongoing commitment, and the Bank looks forward to continued engagement with the Federation to obtain feedback on the practical use of the Heritage Series.
"So this meeting is an important opportunity to strengthen our partnership, exchange ideas, identify practical ways to improve cash handling experience for persons with disability," Mr. Owusu said.
He said the Bank remains committed to maintaining an open dialogue with the Federation as it continues to improve currency management and promote public confidence in the Ghana cedi.
