The Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi, Hon. Alhaji Dr Yussif Sulemana, has presented a 250kVA standby generator to the Bole District Hospital to help solve the facility’s power challenges and improve service delivery.
The hospital management had raised concerns about the lack of a single generator strong enough to power the entire facility. Until now, the hospital depended on two smaller generators during outages, which often disrupted operations.
Handing over the generator, Hon. Sulemana praised staff for their commitment despite limited resources.
*“I have been monitoring the activities of the Bole Hospital, and we can see with certainty that the staff are putting in their best despite all the challenges,”* he said.
He explained the new 250kVA unit will replace the current dual-generator setup and provide full backup power through one system.
The MP noted the generator was not funded from his Common Fund or National Health Insurance allocation.
*“This generator is not coming from my Common Fund, and it is not coming from my National Health Insurance Fund. It is from my own sources by lobbying my friends and colleagues because we want to use our relationships to help our communities rather than for personal gain,”* he stated.
Hon. Sulemana added that installation will require extra funding. He said he has spoken with the District Chief Executive and will cover a large part of the installation cost, while urging hospital management to support the rest to ensure quick setup.
He also gave updates on other health projects. The hospital’s new ambulance is expected to arrive soon, and the contractor on the ongoing hospital infrastructure project has indicated roofing will start shortly. He expressed hope the facility will be ready for commissioning in the coming weeks.
Receiving the donation, *Medical Superintendent Dr. Jonathan Abesig Wadiyir* described it as a major breakthrough.
*“This is one of the most difficult challenges that has confronted this hospital for years. Since I joined in 2022, we have never had a generator capable of powering the whole hospital. Today, that challenge has become history,”* he said.
Dr. Wadiyir noted management raised the issue less than a month ago and the MP responded swiftly.
