Cabinet Orders Draft of State Assets Protection Bill as Mahama Unveils New Anti-Corruption Plan

Cabinet has instructed Attorney-General Dr. Dominic Ayine to prepare a new bill to tighten safeguards for public property.

President John Dramani Mahama disclosed the directive at the Ghana Civil Society Forum 2026, noting that Cabinet had already approved the start of work on the State Assets Protection Bill.

The planned law is intended to protect state assets and raise accountability standards in how public resources are managed.

Speaking at the same forum, President Mahama also confirmed Cabinet’s approval of the National Ethics and Anti-Corruption Plan 2026–2030. The five-year policy framework will steer government’s anti-graft efforts going forward.

According to the President, adopting the anti-corruption plan shows government’s resolve to improve transparency and restore confidence in public institutions.

Both moves form part of a broader push to curb mismanagement and protect national assets.
