Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, has announced that he has appointed Hon. Samuel Atta Akyea as his new lead defence counsel in his ongoing criminal case.
In a statement, Chairman Wontumi said the decision followed careful consultation and reflects his constitutional right to choose his legal representation. He said the change is meant to ensure his defence is presented fully and in line with the law.
He thanked his previous legal team for their service and commitment, adding that the decision does not reflect on their competence or dedication.
Chairman Wontumi noted that the charges against him are serious but reaffirmed his commitment to defending himself through due process. He stressed that every accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty, and that the prosecution must prove each element of the charges beyond reasonable doubt.
His new counsel will take over the case, review the court records, and file any submissions or applications needed to protect his right to a fair hearing.
Chairman Wontumi expressed confidence that the judicial process will follow the Constitution, Ghana’s laws, and principles of justice and fairness.
He asked all parties and the public to allow the legal process to continue without speculation or prejudice while his defence proceeds according to law.
