Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah, MP for Akim Oda*, says the New Patriotic Party’s planned street protest in Accra will go ahead as scheduled on Thursday, August 6, 2026, despite what he describes as attempts by the NDC to derail it with fake letters.
*“I don’t know why our friends in the NDC have all of a sudden become nervous of tomorrow’s demo and therefore throwing in fake letters. We are hitting the grounds tomorrow come rain or shine,”* Hon. Acquah said.
The opposition NPP has announced a demonstration dubbed *"Democracy under Attack"* to protest what it says are threats to Ghana’s constitutional order and democratic principles.
According to the party, leaders of the march will present three separate petitions to key state institutions.
The NPP says the protest is intended to draw attention to the need for constitutional officials and institutions to uphold justice, fairness, accountability, due process and institutional independence.
The march is expected to begin at the Community Centre in Accra. Participants will then proceed to the Supreme Court to present the first petition, pass through the Efua Sutherland area, and continue toward the Ako Adjei Interchange to present a petition to the Presidency.
