Eastern Region: Two Dead, Two Injured In Asuboi Highway Crash

Two people have died and two others were injured following a collision between two cargo trucks on the Accra–Kumasi Highway at Asuboi in the Eastern Region.

The Ghana National Fire Service, GNFS, said the accident happened on Saturday, July 18, 2026. Firefighters from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station responded to a distress call at 9:01 a.m. and were on the scene 10 minutes later with a six-member rescue team led by Station Officer I Antwi Forson.

According to the GNFS, the crash involved a Hyundai truck with registration number GX 7359-14 and a KIA Rhino with registration number GX 857-16.

Rescue personnel used hydraulic equipment to cut through the mangled vehicles and free the trapped victims. The injured were then handed over to the Ghana Ambulance Service and the Ghana Police Service and taken to the Suhum Government Hospital.

Preliminary investigations by the GNFS indicate that the KIA Rhino, which was travelling from the Upper West Region to Accra, suffered a front tyre burst. The driver lost control and crashed into the Hyundai truck in front.

Four people were involved in total. Two died at the scene while the other two sustained injuries.

Both trucks sustained extensive damage. The front of the Hyundai was badly crushed, while the KIA Rhino had its front section and one tyre completely destroyed.

Officers from the Suhum Motor Traffic and Transport Department, MTTD, of the Ghana Police Service and the Ayensuano District Ambulance Service also responded to the incident.
