Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu Demands Probe Into Death of UCC Student at Cape Coast Beach

The Ministry of Education says it has received with “deep sadness” news of the death of Ms. Innocentia Avinu, a Level 200 student at the University of Cape Coast. She died at a beach in Cape Coast.
In a press release dated June 14, 2026, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu directed UCC authorities to work closely with the Ghana Police Service to launch a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
The Ministry extended condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and the entire University community. It also appealed to the public to allow the investigative process to proceed without interference.
The statement was signed by Hashmin Mohammed, Press Secretary to the Education Minister.
