Member of Parliament for Effia, Hon Isaac Boamah-Nyarko, has described the current flooding across the country as a “national emergency” and called for urgent action from government.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Hon Boamah-Nyarko said the situation requires a proactive response from the House beyond statements and questions filed by MPs.
The Effia MP suggested that Parliament’s leadership should engage sector ministers directly when such crises occur. He argued that ministers should be invited to brief the House so MPs and the public understand government’s interventions.
“Between leadership and the sector ministers there could be some interaction to let them come and brief this House on matters involving such crisis like the flooding,” he said.
Hon Boamah-Nyarko asked the Majority Leader whether he had engaged the Minister for Works and Housing on the matter. He wants the Minister to appear before Parliament to outline steps being taken to tackle the flooding and ease the challenges Ghanaians are facing nationwide.
“So that at least we will know what the government is doing and what the sector ministry is doing to combat the flooding and the challenges that Ghanaians are going through across the country,” he added.
