The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with Black Stars head coach, Carlos Queiroz, by mutual agreement.
The decision was announced by the GFA in a statement on Thursday, October 1, 2026, following discussions between both parties.
Details surrounding the termination were not fully disclosed, and it remains unclear if the move is linked to the Black Stars' recent poor run in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where Ghana lost 2-0 to Côte d'Ivoire and 4-2 to The Gambia.
Reacting to the decision, Queiroz said both sides agreed that ending the working relationship was the best option in the current circumstances.
"This was not an easy decision, but both parties agreed that, under the present circumstances, ending our professional relationship was the most appropriate course of action, with the interests of Ghana, the Black Stars and Ghanaian football above everything else," he said.
The Portuguese tactician thanked the GFA and its President for the opportunity to lead the national team, saying he came to Ghana determined to help build a stronger future for the Black Stars and develop the country's football talents.
"Despite our commitment and efforts, the necessary conditions were not fully established, and our recent performance added to the decision to bring this journey to an end," Queiroz stated.
He also expressed gratitude to his technical team and all who supported the Black Stars, especially during preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Queiroz paid tribute to the players and called on Ghanaians to continue to rally behind them.
"Believe in these players. Protect them. Support them. The talent and potential are there. With unity, support and the right environment, this generation can achieve great things for Ghana," he urged.
He further thanked Ghanaians and supporters of the Black Stars for their passion, saying he leaves with "respect, gratitude and pride."
