The Director General of the Ghana Maritime Authority, Captain Dr. Kamal-Deen Ali, has announced plans to revamp existing digital systems including ICUMS and Vessel Tracking and Monitoring Systems to improve efficiency and facilitate trade.
He made this known at a regional workshop on the implementation of the Maritime Single Window.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Captain Dr. Kamal-Deen Ali said the Authority would build on and upgrade existing systems to improve efficiency and facilitate trade.
"We are all looking up to striving to see whatever systems we have in place, how we will build those systems, refine them and let them work more effectively. For example we have the ICUMS that is used here in Ghana, but we also have the advanced vessel traffic system that is used by GPHA," he said.
"On the safety side we have the Vessel Traffic Monitoring System that is used by the Ghana Maritime Authority and the interface between maritime trade and safety are key."
He said the workshop will over the next couple of days explore how these systems work and how they can be upscaled in a better way to make trade and transportation more efficient.
"So I believe that what we are going to do is over the next couple of days explore how these systems work and how we can upscale them in a better way that make trade transportation key. We can build on existing systems that we already have here in Ghana and I'm sure you may also have the same," he added.
The regional workshop forms part of efforts to enhance maritime efficiency through digital system upgrades.
