GNFS Responds To Two Fire Incidents At Anyinam And Akyem Asafo

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has responded to two separate fire incidents at Anyinam and Akyem Asafo in the Eastern Region on Monday, September 7.

In the first incident, personnel from the Bunso Fire Station responded to a commercial fire near the main lorry station at Anyinam.

According to the Service, the distress call came in at 04:28 hours, and a six-member crew led by ADO II Annan arrived at the scene at 04:45 hours to find the fire, believed to have been caused by an electrical fault, already extinguished.

The crew carried out overhaul operations to prevent reignition. Mattresses, a TV stand, wooden ceiling and plastic chairs were partially damaged, while two standing fans were completely destroyed. Items including gas cylinders, chairs, a mattress, a bench and a table were salvaged. No casualties were recorded, and occupants were sensitised on fire safety.

On the same day, the Bunso Fire Station also responded to a vehicle fire involving a black Mazda CX-7 on the Accra-Kumasi Highway at Akyem Asafo.

The call was received at 10:33 hours, and a seven-member crew led by ADO II Amankwah Dacosta arrived at 10:49 hours.

The vehicle owner reported hearing an unusual sound from the engine. He parked to check and saw smoke from underneath the vehicle before it burst into flames. Bystanders reportedly overturned the vehicle, which intensified the blaze.

The crew used foam concentrate and extinguished the fire at 11:10 hours. The vehicle was completely destroyed, with no casualties recorded. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
