The Member of Parliament for Akyem Oda, Hon. Akwasi Acquah, has responded to Birim Central MCE, Solomon Kusi Brako, after a viral video showed the MCE pouring libation and invoking curses on him by a river.
The video has been widely shared online and comes in the middle of a year-long disagreement between the two over alleged *illegal mining, galamsey*, in Birim Central.
According to Hon. Acquah, several constituents contacted him after seeing the video and expressed concern. He said he decided to speak publicly to set the record straight.
The MP maintained his allegation that the MCE has been facilitating galamsey in the municipality. He noted that he has raised the issue for almost a year and has petitioned both government and the relevant ministers, but has received no response. He added that the lack of action is why he has continued to engage CSOs and the media to push for investigations.
Hon. Acquah questioned the MCE’s decision to resort to traditional curses instead of seeking legal redress, stating that the courts are the proper avenue if the MCE feels defamed. He insisted that his allegations are backed by evidence and were not made without basis.
The MP also referenced the law on illegal mining, which provides for a 20-year jail term for the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako and accused government of shielding its own.
As a Christian, Hon. Acquah cited *Proverbs 26:2* and said Ghana’s constitution does not recognize curses as a means of settling disputes. He added that for a government representative to take that route raises questions.
