What began as a school commissioning turned emotional when the MP for Bole-Bamboi, *Hon. Alhaji Yussif Sulemana*, pledged to personally sponsor an orphaned pupil’s education after hearing her story.
The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources was in Kiare, a farming community along the Sonyo road, on *July 27, 2026* to hand over a newly renovated classroom block to the Ghana Education Service and school authorities.
After the ceremony, excited children swarmed his convoy chanting “Issifu Ori! Issifu Ori!”. The MP asked them to form a line so he could hand out gifts. A little girl stood at the front.
Hon. Sulemana asked her name. She gave only her first name. When he asked again, she repeated it. He then asked for her father’s name.
With her head down and in a quiet voice, she answered: *“My father is dead.”*
The cheers stopped. For about 30 seconds the MP was silent. The crowd went quiet too as the weight of her words settled in.
Breaking the silence, a visibly moved Hon. Sulemana said in a trembling voice: *“God has brought her. I will take care of her education.”*
The mood instantly shifted. The gathering broke into applause and smiles as residents commended the gesture.
To follow through, the MP instructed an aide to work with the school’s headteacher to identify the girl’s needs and arrange continuous support for her schooling.
The moment capped the day’s event, underscoring not just the MP’s push to improve school infrastructure, but also his personal commitment to supporting vulnerable children.
The renovated classroom block is expected to improve teaching and learning conditions for pupils in the Kiare community.
