GOVERNMENT ALLOCATES GH¢400M TO BUY HIGH OCCUPANCY BUSES FOR METROMASS, STC

Government is reallocating *GH¢400 million* for the purchase of high occupancy buses to strengthen the fleet of state-owned transport companies, the Minister for Finance, *Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson*, has announced.

Presenting the *Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review of the 2026 Budget* in Parliament on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Dr. Forson said the intervention will target *MetroMass Transit* and the *State Transport Company*.

*"Government is reallocating four hundred million Ghana cities for their position of high occupancy buses to strengthen the fleet of state owned transport companies including Metromass Transit and the state transport company,"* he stated.

Dr. Forson said the buses will help expand public transport capacity, especially on high demand urban and intercity routes.

*"Mr speaker this intervention will expand public transport capacity particularly along high demand urban and intercity routes reducing long passenger queues during peak hours and provide commuters with more reliable and efficient alternative to private vehicles,"* he told the House.
