The Tollbooth Workers Association of Ghana which comprises a total of over 800 workers has reaffirmed that government should reintroduce the road tolls as promised.
Speaking in an interview, the General secretary of the group, Mr. Duncan, explained that the tollbooth operations generated revenue for the country, created jobs and gave opportunities to the locals, therefore, it’s closure remains a major blow in revenue generation.
He continued that, the government’s move to bring back the tolls in a digitized standard would improve the collection of the road tolls in a modernized way, improve traffic flow and reduce congestion at various points.
A member of the group, Dominic Kyei Manu, expressed his disappointment in the NPP government for neglecting them after they were sacked from post when PWDs took over.
He claimed that, the opportunity to work at the tolls was given them by the NPP government for their contribution in helping the party win power in 2016 but got sacked in 2019 without providing them other jobs as promised.. He vowed not to vote for NPP for the neglect.
Meanwhile, Mr. Duncan expressed his appreciation to the current government, mostly to the minister of roads and highways for his promise and efforts to help restore them to their post after the road tolls are reintroduction.
