Govt donates GH¢100,000 to Korle Bu Renal Unit from National Day of Prayer proceeds-Elvis Afriyie Ankrah

The Presidential Envoy for Inter-Faith and Ecumenical Relations, Hon. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, on behalf of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, led members of the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving Planning Committee to present a GH¢100,000 donation to the Renal Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

The contribution, mobilized from proceeds raised during the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, is earmarked to strengthen dialysis services and elevate patient care for thousands of Ghanaians battling kidney disease.

The presentation underscores the Mahama administration’s resolve to translate faith into tangible public good, aligning spiritual gratitude with urgent healthcare intervention.

Speaking during the donation, Hon. Afriyie Ankrah emphasized that thanksgiving must extend beyond liturgy and rhetoric into acts that restore dignity and hope.

"As we continue to thank God for the peace and stability Ghana enjoys, we are reminded that true thanksgiving is expressed through acts of compassion, service, and support for those in need," he stated.

Officials of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital lauded the intervention, noting that the infusion will provide critical relief to the Renal Unit, which serves a high volume of patients and contends with the soaring cost of dialysis treatment.

The National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, instituted under President Mahama, seeks to foster national unity, spiritual reflection, and civic responsibility. The Committee affirmed that subsequent proceeds will continue to be channeled toward vulnerable sectors including health, education, and social welfare.

"With this donation, Government reaffirms its commitment to a holistic approach to nation-building — one that integrates faith, governance, and humanitarian service in pursuit of a healthier and more resilient Ghana."
