The Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL) has introduced new security features on official gazettes to help curb forgery and protect the integrity of official state documents.
The Managing Director of the Company, Nana Kwasi Boatey, Esq., made this known while addressing the press.
According to him, it is a criminal offence for any individual or institution to print copies of the Acts of Ghana and sell them, as the only institution with the legal mandate to do so is the Ghana Publishing Company Limited.
He revealed that the company has observed instances where some persons have illegally printed and sold copies of the Acts of Ghana, describing the act as a very serious offence.
"People see it is a criminal offense to be published to print copies of the Acts of Ghana and sell. The only institution that has a legal mandate to do that is Ghana Publishing Company and yet we've seen in some places where people have gone to print copies of Acts of Ghana and they are selling," he said.
Nana Boatey also disclosed that gazettes were being faked in the past, but the situation has been significantly curbed following the introduction of a number of security features.
He added that several arrests have been made in connection with such forgeries, with some prosecutions ongoing and others concluded.
"There was a similar situation with gazettes, people used to fake gazettes a lot. Now we've curbed it significantly because we introduced a number of security features and the people know that we are serious. There's been a number of arrests, some of the prosecutions are ongoing, some of them I think are concluded," the MD stated.
He emphasized that the company has zero tolerance for fake publications and will not hesitate to hand over offenders to the police.
"We're still serious about it and let it be told to the whole Ghana that we have zero tolerance for fake... as a policy," he warned.
