GRIDCo and ECG Cut Power at Mallam, Achimota Substations Over Flood Risks

GRIDCo and ECG have switched off electricity from the *Mallam and Achimota primary substations* after heavy rains flooded key power infrastructure in parts of Greater Accra.

In a joint statement Sunday, the two utilities said the shutdown was a safety move to protect both residents and their equipment.

“Flooding has affected critical power infrastructure at several substations, creating serious risks to equipment and to staff working on the network,” the statement noted.

GRIDCo and ECG explained that they took the decision to *temporarily cut supply from the affected substations* until water levels drop and it is safe to restore power. Engineers are on the ground assessing the damage to transmission and distribution lines.

The companies also warned that *other flood-hit areas could face temporary outages* if safety threats are found.

“As the rains and flooding continue, supply may be interrupted in other affected areas as a precaution to protect lives, property, and critical infrastructure,” they added.

The public has been urged to stay alert and *report fallen poles, exposed cables, or flooded electrical installations* to ECG offices or customer service lines immediately to aid quick response.

GRIDCo and ECG apologised for the disruption and said restoration will begin as soon as weather conditions improve and it is safe to do so.
