The Human Rights Court 2, High Court, Accra, has granted an interim injunction against the Medical and Dental Council (MDC) over the conduct of the Common Registration Examination (CRE).
Presided over by His Lordship Justice Nana Brew, the court in Suit No. HR/0010/2027, restrained the MDC, the Attorney-General and the Ministry of Health from enforcing the requirement for 792 newly trained medical doctors to sit and pass the Stage 1 Common Registration Examination as a mandatory condition for provisional registration and commencement of housemanship.
The order follows a Motion Ex-parte filed on 20th October 2026 by F-X Law & Associates, lawyers for the Federation of Ghana Medical Students' Associations (FGMSA) and the affected students.
According to the Court Order dated 21st October 2026, the 1st Defendant/Respondent by itself or its officers, servants or agents, are restrained from enforcing the requirement against the affected Plaintiffs/Applicants pending the hearing of the interlocutory injunction.
The Court further ordered all Defendants, their agents, assigns and workmen to halt any interference including the writing of the examination which was scheduled for Thursday, 22nd October 2026.
In a press statement issued on 21st October 2026, FGMSA confirmed the injunction and urged all parties to respect the Court's order as legal proceedings continue.
FGMSA thanked its legal team, the affected graduating classes and all medical and dental students for their support and solidarity, stressing that decisions affecting the professional future of graduating students must be grounded in law, fairness and due process.
The Association says further updates will be communicated through its official channels.
