The Minority has told the government to hand over power to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the NPP if it has no direction to govern.
Addressing the media in Parliament on Wednesday, August 26, the Member of Parliament for Walewale, Hon. Abdul Kabiru Tiah Mahama said the emergency recall of Parliament has exposed the lack of leadership and seriousness on the part of the NDC government.
"If there is no direction in this government, if there's no leadership in this government, they should better hand over to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia so that we can get government business ongoing," he declared.
Hon. Mahama expressed frustration that Parliament was abruptly recalled from recess, forcing MPs, staff and journalists to report daily at a cost to the taxpayer, yet no tangible business has been conducted.
"The leader of government business must get serious. The ministers must get serious. They cannot abruptly end our recess and then we are here doing nothing," he fumed.
"People's taxpayer money, I mean taxpayer resources are wasted. Journalists have to come here everyday and they cover nothing. No one is paying for the transportation of the journalists. You cannot be causing these losses to people when you are not responsible," he added.
According to him, while the Minority is present in its numbers ready to support government business, the Majority side cannot even muster numbers to explain why the House is being adjourned again.
"Even when they were going to address you, you realize that they didn't even have numbers to come and stand down to even explain why they are adjourning the house. The Minority who is not even supposed to be prosecuting government business, we are here in our numbers," he stated.
He insisted that Ghanaians must know that the current administration has lost direction in prosecuting its own business before Parliament.
