Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has criticized the operations of the *Ghana Gold Board, questioning the business sense behind its activities and taking a direct shot at its CEO, *Sammy Gyamfi*.
Speaking on *Peace FM* on Monday, August 17, Mr. Afenyo-Markin said any entity trading in gold should be making profits, not losses, considering gold’s strong value on the global market.
“_If you sell gold and make a loss, then you are not a good trader,_” the Effutu MP stated, in what was widely seen as a jab at Mr. Gyamfi.
His remarks come amid fresh debate over the *Bank of Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme*, which is run through GoldBod.
The *IMF has reported a $214 million loss* linked to the programme. However, GoldBod has pushed back, disputing that the amount represents a loss incurred directly by the Board.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin has been vocal about his concerns with GoldBod. He warned that if the institution’s operations are not properly monitored, it could turn into a major scandal. He has previously hinted that there are undisclosed issues with GoldBod and urged its leadership to “_be careful_”.
His latest comments add to the mounting political pressure and scrutiny facing GoldBod over its financial performance and management.
