Interior Minister Reports 12 Dead, 7 Missing as Floods Hit 7,761 Households in Accra

Hon. Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, Minister for the Interior, has updated Parliament on the scale of damage from this week’s floods, confirming *12 deaths, 7 missing persons, and 38,802 individuals displaced* across Greater Accra.

Addressing the House, the Minister said *7,761 households* were displaced by the floods as of Wednesday morning.

“Mr Speaker, we have a total of seven thousand seven hundred and sixty-one households that were displaced. With thirty-eight thousand eight hundred and two individuals affected,” Hon. Muntaka stated.

The Minister confirmed *7 people were still missing as of this morning*, and the *death toll stood at 12 individuals*. He noted the figures could have changed, as he had not received fresh updates after spending three hours at the Finance Committee.

“Seven people as of this morning were missing and the total death are twelve individuals that we lost,” he told MPs.

Hon. Muntaka extended government’s sympathy to bereaved families and said many affected residents could not return to their homes.

“Let me take this opportunity to extend our condolences and that of government and the people of Ghana to the families that lost their family members... We assure them we are with them in this difficult moment,” he said.

The Minister did not provide a specific figure for the *number of constituencies affected* or the *total value of properties damaged* in his update to Parliament. Government is expected to provide those details in subsequent briefings as assessments continue.
