The Krachi East Municipal Assembly in the Oti Region has provided economic assistance to 161 persons with disabilities (PWDs) by distributing start-up kits and working capital worth over GH¢300,000. This initiative aims to foster inclusive development and enhance the livelihoods of beneficiaries. The items given included cassava and fufu grinding machines, refrigerators, industrial sewing machines, plastic chairs, and cash support. Municipal Chief Executive Sarfo Nketia highlighted that the program is designed to empower PWDs to achieve economic activity and financial independence. He reiterated the government's commitment to social protection and development, linking the support to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 1, which aims to eradicate poverty. Nketia emphasized the importance of timely fund management from the District Assemblies Common Fund and urged beneficiaries to utilize the items productively rather than selling them. He underscored that the long-term goal of the initiative is to foster business sustainability and self-reliance among PWDs. Additionally, Member of Parliament Nelson Djabab stressed the need for collective action from the government and communities to address disability issues effectively.
