Kumawu MP Calls For Stronger Laws To Protect Sexual And Reproductive Health Rights

Member of Parliament for Kumawu, Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim, has urged lawmakers to ensure Ghana’s laws, policies and public resources are used to adequately protect and promote Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for all citizens.

Hon. Anim, who is also Chairman of the Human Rights Committee of Parliament, made the call while delivering the opening address at a two-day Capacity-Building Programme on SRHR held in Koforidua.

He said Parliament has a constitutional responsibility to ensure that the rights of every person are upheld, with special attention to women, children, adolescents, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable members of society.

“As Parliamentarians, we have a constitutional responsibility to ensure that our laws, policies and public resources adequately protect and promote these rights for every person,” he stated.

The Kumawu MP also reaffirmed the Human Rights Committee’s commitment to working closely with partners to promote human rights, strengthen accountability, and ensure that Parliament continues to play its role in safeguarding the dignity and wellbeing of every Ghanaian.

The capacity-building programme brought together legislators and stakeholders to deepen understanding of SRHR issues and explore legislative measures to improve access and protection.
