Mahama: Big Push Contractors Will Be Paid Within 2 Weeks of Certification

President John Dramani Mahama has given contractors on the government’s Big Push infrastructure programme a firm payment assurance: meet the standards and deadlines, and your money will be released without delay.

Speaking on Saturday, June 27, 2026, during his Resetting Ghana Tour of the Central Region, the President said the government has already secured funding to settle certified projects. He stressed that contractors should not expect the usual wait times once they submit completion certificates.

“We have the funds available. It is not the case that we are now looking for the money to pay those who are done,” Mahama stated. “Ato Forson has ensured that finances are made available, so any contractor who is able to produce the completion certificate, in about two weeks or less, you will receive your money.”

The President said he had inspected several road projects in the region and was impressed with the pace of work. He told contractors that performance under the current phase will determine who gets picked for the next phase.

“I have told the contractors under the Big Push Programme that we have a second phase of that programme, and so whoever is able to complete his road well and on time will be considered for the second phase,” he said.

The Big Push is government’s flagship infrastructure drive focused on roads and key public works across the country. Mahama’s assurance comes amid long-standing concerns from contractors about payment arrears stalling projects nationwide.
