President John Mahama has broken ground for a major new industrial enclave at Afienya, signalling government's push to expand manufacturing, draw in investors and create employment.
The 1,238-acre Afienya Industrial Park is expected to host over 120 companies. It will be fitted with the basic infrastructure industries need to operate, including reliable power, water supply, access roads and waste treatment systems, so that firms can set up factories and start production without delay.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony on Thursday, October 15, President Mahama said the new park has become necessary because the Tema Export Processing Zone has run out of space, even as interest from investors continues to grow.
He added that the proposed 10-billion-dollar New Economy Programme will help fund infrastructure at Afienya. The aim, he said, is to raise local production, cut down on imports and grow exports.
