Global Affairs Analyst and former Aide to former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, Dr. Agbai Eke Agbai PhD, has praised President John Dramani Mahama for the direction Ghana is taking under his leadership.
Appearing on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Frontline Morning Show hosted by Kwabena Agyapong, Dr. Agbai said Ghana is getting it right by fighting corruption and assembling the best minds to resuscitate the economy.
"Ghana is getting right by fighting corruption, by making sure that the President has assembled the best minds," he said. "No country can be said to be 100% corruption free, but minimizing it is the key and having the vision to assemble the best minds in the areas that are targeted to resuscitate the economy is what will distinguish one country from another and there lies a distinction between Ghana under President Mahama and other African leaders."
Asked how the President’s performance places Ghana globally, especially after his delivery at the UN General Assembly, Dr. Agbai quoted former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
"In her book _No Higher Honor_ she could not have said it better, she said that history is made in advance but written in retrospect. I repeat, history is made in advance but written in retrospect," he stated.
"John Mahama is writing the history and when it shall be written, prosperity will recognize him and place him as one of the best of the 21st century."
On why it has become difficult for Africa to adopt a single currency, Dr. Agbai said it is achievable like the European Union did, but Africa is not speaking with one voice.
"Look at European Union they have achieved it, why can't we achieve it? But we are not speaking with one voice because the Western world does not want Africa to come together. Each time they see any leader that wants to bring Africa together they will eliminate you," he said.
Dr. Agbai, who said he is enjoying Ghanaian banku and dawadawa jollof rice, expressed hope that the vision driving Ghana’s current progress will be sustained.
"By the time the President's time comes and gone, if it were another country they probably would have asked for a referendum to have him even extend his time," he added, describing Rainbow Radio as one of the best places of communication.
