President John Dramani Mahama has announced that government will spend $2 billion every year under its new economic policy on job-rich sectors, with textiles and garments as a key focus.
Speaking during a visit to a textile facility, the President said the investment is aimed at creating jobs, boosting local production and reducing dependence on imports.
"We're going to spend 2 billion dollars every year in job-rich sectors like textiles and garments. So next year alone, we're going to finance the construction of three more textile factories," President Mahama said.
He added that the three new factories will be built in collaboration with the private sector.
The announcement forms part of government's broader industrialisation drive, which includes the development of the Afienya Industrial Park to provide infrastructure for manufacturing companies to set up and expand production.
