The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has deployed an advance team to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region to support students affected by the alleged sexual abuse incident at Obuasi Senior High Technical School (OSECTEC).
In a press release dated 23rd October 2026, the Ministry said the team was deployed on Wednesday, 21st October 2026 and comprises officers from the Department of Social Welfare, the Domestic Violence Secretariat and the Department of Children.
According to the Ministry, the team's mandate is to assess the immediate and long-term protection, psychosocial, health and welfare needs of the affected students and facilitate appropriate interventions to support their recovery.
The team is engaging the affected students and their families, as well as regional and district stakeholders including education authorities, to identify gaps in support services and coordinate the institutional response.
The Ministry stressed that its intervention will prioritize the dignity, safety, privacy and best interests of the affected students, with all engagements conducted in a sensitive, child-centred and trauma-informed manner to prevent further distress or stigmatisation.
It added that where necessary, the team will facilitate referrals to health facilities and specialised mental health and psychosocial support services.
The Ministry said it is working with the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, Ghana Police Service and other stakeholders to identify institutional gaps, reinforce preventive measures and strengthen systems for detecting and reporting abuse.
Reaffirming its stance, the Ministry said sexual abuse and all forms of violence against children are unacceptable and must not be tolerated, while urging the public to respect the privacy of the affected students and refrain from commentary that could cause further harm.
The Ministry encouraged the public to report suspected cases of child abuse to the Ghana Police Service or through its Helpline of Hope Call Centre and Orange Support Centre on *0800-800-800, 0800-900-900, 0800-111-222* and *WhatsApp 0551757575*.
