The Member of Parliament for Upper West Akyem, *Hon. Emmanuel Drah*, has commended the Minister for Finance for presenting the *2026 Mid-Year Budget Review* without requesting a supplementary budget.
Speaking after the presentation in Parliament, Hon. Drah said the fact that government did not ask for additional funding shows discipline in implementing the 2026 budget within the first six months of the year.
According to him, this demonstrates that the policies and reforms introduced by the government are yielding results.
*“The Minister and the government have adhered to the plans of 2026 in the first 6 months of the year. This shows that all policies and reforms the government have introduced are solidly working,”* he stated.
Hon. Drah added that the government’s *Fiscal Consolidation Strategy* is helping Ghana move away from an expenditure-based approach, which he described as a major positive for the economy.
He also praised the government for abolishing what he termed “nuisance taxes” such as the Betting Tax, E-Levy, Emissions Tax, and COVID-19 Levy introduced by the previous NPP administration.
Despite the removal of those taxes, he said the economy remains strong because the Finance Minister has laid a solid foundation.
*“Even after the government abolished all nuisance taxes, the economy is still stronger. That is because the Finance Minister has laid a solid foundation and he needs to be commended,”* he said.
The MP further noted that government is spending well across all Ministries, Departments and Agencies, and delivering visible impact without excessive borrowing.
*“Although the government is not borrowing, it is making a lot of impact that Ghanaians can see. The government is not borrowing, so it is also spending less on debt servicing,”* he added.
Hon. Drah said there are many positives to take from the Mid-Year Review, and expressed confidence that if the discipline from January to June is sustained, *“the country will move forward by December.”
