The Deputy Women’s Organizer of the National Democratic Congress, *Abigail Yaa Mensah*, has condemned what she describes as "sexist and disrespectful" remarks made by the Minority Leader against a senior government official, *Nana Yaa Jantuah*.
In a statement released on *August 6, 2026*, Ms. Mensah said the comments were made following the presentation of a petition at the Presidency.
According to the NDC official, the Minority Leader described Nana Yaa Jantuah as a “nobody” and an “unmatched personality.”
"I strongly condemn the deeply offensive and sexist remarks made by the Minority Leader," Ms. Mensah stated. "His description of Nana Yaa Jantuah... is not only disrespectful to her as an individual but also an insult to all women who continue to serve this country with competence and dedication."
She said it was "extremely troubling" that the Minority Leader would suggest a woman was unfit to receive a petition based on gender, adding that such a posture reflects "a clear sense of gender superiority and exposes a mindset that seeks to sideline women from positions of authority and influence."
"Nana Yaa Jantuah holds a legitimate and respected role at the Presidency. To dismiss her on the basis of gender is to undermine the principles of merit, professionalism, and equality that our nation must uphold," she added.
Ms. Mensah said the remarks raise "serious concerns about how women are regarded within the NPP and whether there is genuine respect for women in leadership within their ranks."
She called on the Minority Leader to "issue an immediate and unreserved apology to Nana Yaa Jantuah and to all Ghanaian women." She also urged the NPP leadership to "clearly state their position on gender equality and to disassociate themselves from such discriminatory and demeaning remarks."
"As Deputy Women’s Organizer of the NDC, I remain committed to defending the dignity, respect, and rightful place of women in governance and public life," she concluded.
