Former Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Nii Armah Ashitey, has declared his intention to contest for the National Chairmanship position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Announcing his bid at a press conference on Friday, September 25, 2026, Mr Ashitey said his decision was motivated by the need to build a more inclusive, united and participatory party.
He said if given the mandate, his leadership will focus on strengthening the party's structures, deepening internal democracy, and ensuring greater recognition for the grassroots, party cadres, former executives, youth and women.
"Give me the opportunity to serve as national chairman. I will work towards a more inclusive, united, participatory NDC, where the grassroots, cadres, former executives, youth, women, and all committed members will have a meaningful place in the affairs of our party," he stated.
Mr Ashitey further pledged to rebuild the bonds of comradeship within the NDC and ensure that every member feels valued.
"We must strengthen our structures, deepen internal democracy, rebuild the bonds of comradeship, and ensure that the NDC remains a party where every member matters and every contribution counts," he added.
"I hereby declare my intent to contest the national chairmanship of the great NDC party," he declared.
Mr Ashitey joins other leading figures who have shown interest in the chairmanship race, including former Local Government Minister Akwasi Opong-Fosu and former DRIP Coordinator and former Odododiodioo MP, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye.
