Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has dismissed reports linking him to alleged extortion, describing them as false and part of social media mischief.
Speaking to journalists at his residence in Accra when cultural troupes from Winneba visited him, the Effutu MP said he has carried out his duties as Minority Leader with dignity and respect for the history of the office.
He noted that he sits in a seat once occupied by leading statesmen of Ghana's political tradition including J.B. Danquah, and that the elders of the NPP entrusted him with leading the caucus - a responsibility he does not take for granted.
"I believe I have discharged my duty as Minority Leader with all the dignity that must go with the office," he said, adding that while he is not perfect, he will not be reckless.
Afenyo-Markin challenged claims that there are audio or video recordings of him engaging in misconduct.
"Nobody has any video of me doing anything and I say so on authority. Nobody has any audio of me doing anything to embarrass myself, my family and the party. There's nothing like that anywhere," he stressed.
He said as a politician he understands that such allegations will come in the social media era, but he has resorted to legal action to clear his name.
