The Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of failing to honour its campaign promises and worsening the living conditions of Ghanaians.
According to him, the NDC while in opposition claimed the country was facing severe economic hardships and promised to do better if given power, but has failed to deliver since assuming office. He alleged that when citizens complain or criticise the government, they are harassed, arrested and intimidated.
Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM's Frontline, the MP said many Ghanaians now regret voting for the NDC, claiming they were misled.
He assured that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will return to power under the leadership of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to provide better leadership, economic stability and accountable governance.
"I want to assure Ghanaians that the next NPP government will do much better when we resume power. Whenever you are voted out of power and in opposition, you use the opportunity to learn from past mistakes, correct them, and return to do much better. Going into opposition is not something we wanted, but it is an opportunity for us to learn from our mistakes," he said.
He added: "We had the belief that the NDC would have done better so that when we return, we will continue from where they stopped. However, they failed in delivering on what they promised the people of Ghana. But I want to assure them that we will return and do much better. 2028 will come soon, and so we will ask Ghanaians to be patient. The thievery, unprecedented levels of corruption, the arrest, intimidation, and harassment of critics of this government are alarming. They don’t want Ghanaians to criticise them, but Ghanaians should have patience and hope that a new NPP government will do much better."
