The New Patriotic Party says it does not trust Attorney General *Dr. Dominic Ayine* to lead an independent probe into the Ghanaian side of the *Asante Kwaku Berko AKSA energy bribery case*.
The party’s position comes after a former Goldman Sachs banker, *Asante Kwaku Berko*, was convicted in the United States over bribery linked to the AKSA energy deal.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, *Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah* said the conviction makes it more urgent for Ghana to investigate its own officials who may have been involved and to hold them to account.
But according to the NPP, the Attorney General cannot be relied on to do that job fairly.
Baffour Awuah argued that since Dr. Ayine took office on *22nd January 2025*, he has repeatedly filed *nolle prosequi* to discontinue major criminal cases involving people linked to both the previous NPP government and the current NDC administration.
He listed some of those cases to include the *SSNIT scandal, the Saglemi housing project, COCOBOD related prosecutions, and the UniBank case*.
“These decisions have raised serious questions about accountability, the recovery of public funds and the state in which taxpayers may ultimately bear the financial consequences,_” the MP said.
He added that because of this pattern, the NPP does not believe Dr. Ayine can command public trust to independently investigate or prosecute allegations involving NDC officials or other politically connected persons in the AKSA matter.
The NPP is therefore calling for a thorough and transparent investigation into all Ghanaian aspects of the AKSA energy deal.
