*NSA warns of penalties for skipping service*
Citing the National Service Authority Act, 2024 (Act 1119), the Authority reminded the public that national service is mandatory for Ghanaian citizens who complete tertiary education.
Under Section 40 of the Act:
1. Employers cannot hire anyone required to do national service who hasn’t done it, unless exempted.
2. Employers must confirm if a prospective employee has done national service or holds an exemption.
3. Employers who violate this face an administrative penalty of 5,000 penalty units.
4. Anyone who gets a job without doing service will be directed by NSA to serve in a field determined by the Board.
5. The Registrar of Companies will not register a business for anyone who should have done national service but hasn’t, unless exempted.
The NSA is urging all prospective service personnel to follow the procedures and timelines for smooth deployment.
The statement was signed by Director-General Ruth Dela Seddoh.
