Member of Parliament for Odotobri, Lawyer Anthony Mmieh, is urging government to add the constituency to the Big Push road programme, arguing that the area’s economic contributions warrant better infrastructure.
The call came during his inspection of 29km of newly reshaped roads linking the Huu and Hiaya electoral areas. The project was initiated by the MP’s office in partnership with local communities to ease transport challenges.
Speaking to journalists, Hon. Mmieh said Odotobri plays a major role in Ghana’s economy through cocoa, commerce, and mining. For that reason, he believes residents should benefit directly from national road investments.
“Odotobri contributes significantly through cocoa production, trading, and mining. We deserve a fair share of infrastructure development,” he said.
The MP also appealed for government to settle outstanding payments to two contractors who were working on road sections in the constituency. He said clearing the arrears would allow them to return to site and finish the projects.
“Our people are facing serious difficulties due to poor road networks. Extending the Big Push road projects here will ease their burden,” he added.
Locals told the media that bad roads make it difficult to reach the district capital and nearby towns, affecting trade and daily movement. They asked government to intervene quickly.
At Huu, Odikro Nana Owusu Asim Panin II highlighted two other concerns. He said weak mobile network coverage is hurting businesses, and called on the district assembly to upgrade the local CHPS compound to improve health services for the community.
The MP’s inspection and the appeals from residents come as government continues to roll out the Big Push initiative aimed at improving road infrastructure nationwide.
