Work on the Ofankor-Nsawam Road Project is 82% complete, with most major structural components finished, Chief Resident Engineer Ing. Kwabena Bempong has said.
Briefing the media on Tuesday, May 26, Ing. Bempong explained that the outstanding works are mainly in the Nsawam area.
“Currently, the total calculation is that we are 82% complete technically. What is left to be done is the Nsawam section, and we are going to move about 300 cubic metres of earthworks,” he said.
He added that the final stage will involve earthworks and finishing activities before the road is fully opened to traffic.
The project has faced several delays. It missed the original completion target of July 20, 2024, and also failed to meet the revised deadline of May 21, 2025.
Authorities say the setbacks are due to unresolved compensation claims for affected persons and difficulties relocating utility lines belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana and Ghana Water Limited.
Officials are now seeking an extension to finish the remaining work.
The Ofankor-Nsawam stretch is a key transport corridor linking Accra to towns along the eastern corridor and has been under construction for several years.
