The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a teacher of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School in connection with the assault of an 18-year-old female student captured in a viral video.
The suspect, 39-year-old Eric Buernortey Apaflo, was picked up by a Nyinahini District Police Patrol Team on Monday, June 8, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m.
Preliminary police investigations show that Apaflo, who also serves as caretaker of the school’s hostel, confronted the victim, Patience Chibu, and some male students over alleged misconduct at the hostel. A misunderstanding during the confrontation led to the suspect assaulting the student.
The assault angered some students. Police say they allegedly pelted stones at the teacher and invited some youth from the town to the hostel to attack him. The situation was brought under control after the timely intervention of the police patrol team.
A Police Medical Report Form has been issued to the victim for medical examination and treatment. The suspect remains in police custody assisting with investigations.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has urged the public to remain calm and use lawful and peaceful means to resolve grievances and disputes.
The statement was signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police Augustine Antwi, Staff Officer for the Head of the Public Affairs Unit, Ashanti Region.
