Samuel Nartey George, the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, has expressed his relief and gratitude after the Ghanaian Parliament passed the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill. This legislation aims to criminalize LGBTQ+ activities, advocacy, and the promotion of non-conventional sexual relations and family values. Mr. George described the bill's passage as the end of a long legislative journey, emphasizing the importance of strong parliamentary leadership in achieving this milestone. He specifically acknowledged the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, for his crucial role in advancing the bill through the legislative process. The bill, which has faced significant public debate and international scrutiny since its introduction in 2021, was sponsored by a bipartisan group of MPs. Mr. George expressed his gratitude to the Parliament's leadership and the committee members who supported the initiative, stating that their confidence was instrumental in steering the bill through to approval. He highlighted that without the unwavering support of the Speaker, the legislative journey would have been impossible.
