On the second day of its public hearing, the Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources continued reviewing reports from assemblies in the Western Region, following similar deliberations on the first day. The hearing focused on the 20% District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) allocation, comprising 10% for sanitation activities and 10% for mechanised boreholes.
The Committee examined the funds received, how they were used, and the sanitation and borehole projects undertaken. Members also assessed the projects' progress and impact on beneficiary communities, and considered the challenges assemblies faced in accessing and utilising the funds.
The engagement allowed the Committee to seek clarification on the reports and deliberate on issues arising from implementation.
The two-day exercise is part of the Committee's oversight responsibility to promote accountability in the use of public funds and assess how far the allocations have improved sanitation and access to safe drinking water.
