Tensions remain high at Obuasi Senior High Technical School after some students attacked the headmaster and vandalized school property over allegations that he buried a newborn baby on campus.
The headmaster, *Abdullai Zakari*, was reportedly beaten by the students and sustained multiple injuries. He is currently receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.
According to reports, the incident happened between 12:30 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. on campus. A student claimed he saw the headmaster’s vehicle near the school’s refuse dump and raised an alarm. Other students then mobilized to the area and alleged they found evidence that the headmaster had buried a baby estimated to be five to six months old.
Following the alleged discovery, the students confronted and assaulted Mr. Zakari. Police arrived at the scene, exhumed the body and sent it to the morgue. Officers intervened to stop further destruction.
Despite police presence, the students proceeded to damage school property, including items in the headmaster’s bungalow. Some first-year students were also allegedly attacked after seniors accused them of supporting the headmaster.
The Head of the Municipal Security Council, *Faustilove Appiah Kannin*, together with senior police officers, later visited the school to calm tensions.
*Obuasi Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Mahama Iddrisu*, has assured students of maximum protection while investigations continue.
Six people have so far been arrested in connection with the incident.
