“Stop Destroying Our Rivers” - Konongo Traditional Leaders Storm Galamsey Site With Eggs

Traditional leaders of Konongo have stormed an illegal mining site with a crate of eggs to invoke curses on persons destroying waterbodies through galamsey.

The chiefs, invoking their deity Apontuah, warned that anyone who continues with illegal mining will face dire consequences.

“We have warned you repeatedly to stop destroying our waterbodies through illegal mining, but you have refused to listen,” the leaders said.

“Today, we have been compelled to invoke curses on anyone who continues with this act. If anything happens to anyone involved, no one should come to the palace.”

According to the chiefs, repeated appeals and warnings to galamsey operators in the area have fallen on deaf ears, leaving them with no option but to seek spiritual intervention to protect rivers and other water sources.

The dramatic action has drawn the attention of residents, many of whom say the destruction of waterbodies by illegal miners has made life unbearable in Konongo and surrounding communities.

The traditional authority says it will continue to collaborate with security agencies to clamp down on the menace.
