Suame MP Hon. Lawyer John Darko: “No Government Jobs Coming – Youth Must Turn to TVET

Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency, Hon Lawyer John Darko has told Ghanaian youth that government jobs “are not coming” and urged them to pursue technical and vocational education as the only path out of unemployment.

Contributing to a statement on TVET funding in Parliament by Hon. Fred Kyei Asamoah, he said skills training is critical for job creation in the current economy.

“Mr Speaker, to the people of Ghana, to the youth of Ghana, no job is coming,” he told the House. “The only way you can create a job is for you to go out there. If you want to be amazing, get education because the government is not providing you any job.”

The Lawmaker listed several trades, stressing the need to polish practical skills through education.

“If you want to be a tailor, get a good education. Polish your skills. The government is not bringing you any job. If you want to be an electrician, make sure you have education. This government has no job for you. If you want to be a carpenter, get education. Make sure that you polish your skills. This is what TVET provides,” he said.

Addressing young people directly, the Suame MP cautioned against waiting for public sector employment.

“I plead with my brothers and sisters in this country, the youth of this country: if you are waiting for the government to provide you a white-collar job, please it is not coming. If you have the technical skills, polish it. If you are a welder in Suame, polish it. If you are a caterer in Suame, polish it. Make sure that you get education.”

He said TVET offers the pathway to self-reliance in a tough job market.

“That is the only way that you can judge and that is what TVET provides,” Hon. Darko added.

Concluding, he thanked the maker of the original statement and encouraged Ghanaians to embrace vocational training.

“I want to encourage the youth and the people of Ghana to ensure that they get technical vocational education training because it is the only way they can get themselves out of this unemployment situation because this government is not bringing any job,” he said.
