SWIFT GNFS RESPONSE SAVES FOUR IN CAPE COAST BUILDING COLLAPSE

A rapid response by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) led to the rescue of four (4) occupants trapped beneath a collapsed single-room structure at Gyagyaano, behind Yogurt Fie on Idan Fourth Alley in Cape Coast, following a heavy downpour in the early hours of Sunday, June 21, 2026.

GNFS received the distress call at 0454hrs and arrived at the scene at 0506hrs. Rescuer crews from the Cape Coast Metro and Regional Headquarters Sub-Stations immediately commenced rescue operations and successfully extricated and evacuated all four (4) victims from the rubble by 0619hrs.

The injured, comprising one (1) male and three (3) females, were transported by the National Ambulance Service to the Ewim Polyclinic for treatment.

Sadly, follow-up at the hospital confirmed the passing of Anastasia Abakah (12 years) and Adwoa Baduwa (40 years).

Preliminary investigations indicate that the collapse was caused by heavy rainfall, which compromised the structural integrity of the building.

Special appreciation goes to all supporting agencies whose collaboration contributed to the successful rescue of the trapped occupants.

Residents within the Cape Coast Metropolis occupying old mud structures and buildings showing signs of structural weakness are advised to have them assessed by qualified experts and to immediately evacuate any structure deemed unsafe, especially during this rainy season.
